Jyoti Jiwan
Children Sponsorship Program
Jyoti Jiwan (Children Sponsorship Program)
Within the municipalities and rural municipalities where Sahayog ra Sarokar operates, many orphaned, abandoned, and differently-abled children enrolled in government schools face severe financial hardship, leaving them without essential educational materials. To address this challenge, the Jyoti Jiwan Scholarship Program was established to provide a year’s worth of educational supplies and extend ongoing support to children under the program’s guardianship. The scholarship covers students from nursery level through Grade 10.
During the implementation of its various community programs, the organization observed that many children were unable to attend school due to economic constraints. It was neither practical nor sustainable to accommodate all financially disadvantaged children in institutional children homes. However, it was found that if these children could remain under the care of their parents or guardians and receive consistent educational assistance, they could continue their studies successfully. This insight led to the launch of the Jyoti Jiwan Scholarship Program. Once a child is enrolled, they are sponsored for their education up to Grade 10. For instance, if a child joins the program in Grade 1, they will continue receiving support until they complete Grade 10, a total of ten years, provided that the Social Welfare Council (SWC) permits the organization’s renewal and operation within the respective district. In addition to addressing educational needs, the program was founded to ensure the safety and protection of girl children from human trafficking and to promote gender equity in rural communities. By empowering girls and providing equal access to education, the program contributes to building safer and more inclusive societies.
The first beneficiary of the Jyoti Jiwan Scholarship Program was Chakra Bahadur Tamang from Chautara, Sindhupalchok District. Along with him, four other children received scholarships in 2004, marking the beginning of this impactful initiative. Since then, the program has continued to expand, offering educational opportunities and renewed hope to countless children across Nepal.
